Well, you could say I was wrong, except for I didn't say that. I was quoting. So if you'd like to take issue with it, keep that in mind.

And I'm sorry, but the way in which you relate the slave owners-Lincoln communication makes me really suspicious about your ideas about slavery. This whole "objective" argument that the slave masters were making logical capitalistic decisions is inherently flawed, as are most of the super free market ideas, because these issues aren't ones that can or should be boiled down to arguments that merely reflect some cleansed idea about capitalism.

RP is a racist. Even if Hutchinson was wrong on the slavery issue, RP has said enough to show his true colors. And allowing Neo-Nazis and white supremacists to support him without disassociating himself from them reconfirms that. Sorry.

You are dead wrong about the slavery issue.

One, Lincoln told southern slave owners that they would be "allowed" to keep
their slaves if their respective stattes would return to the Union. Slave owners,
rightly so, said "no" and you can't take what is legally ours to begin with.

Two, Lincoln offered to pay for the slaves in BORDER states in order to win the
loyalty of those within said states, ie Kentucky, Tennessee, etc.

Thirdly, gradual emancipation and emancipation with compensation had worked for other
countries, namely England and France in their respective colonies. Paul is right, '
had this been offered in some way, war could have been avoided.
